About: The magnificent tower of ST Mary the Virgin Church at Axminster. The church is the oldest building in Axminster and there is a beautiful 12th century effigy The Tudor porch is worth seeing and there are distinctive gargoyles.

About: Axminster formed around the junction of two major Roman roads, the fosse Way which runs from Axmouth to London and Icknield Street which went from Exeter to London. The town was granted a Royal Charter by King John in 1210.
