About: Smeaton's tower stood for over 100 years on the Eddystone rocks and did a wonderful job from the time it was built in 1759 warning of the great dangers in this area. As a tribute to the builder and its achievements it was rebuilt here in 1882 and it is possible to climb the 93 steps to get a view from the top
