About: Statue to the famous author Charles Kingsley at Bideford. In 1863 Kingsley published his most famous book, The Water Babies. Written for his youngest son, this book tells the story of a young chimney-sweep, who runs away from his brutal employer. In his flight he falls into a river and is transformed into a water baby.
